In memory of:

As most of you have heard by now, comedian George Carlin passed away earlier this week.

His comedy has meant alot to me over the years. I remember watching his televiseed performances on the then young cable network with my dad, and listening to his recorded shows also with my dad (along with the Duck's Breath Mystery Theater, and the Firesign Theater), and I have devoured all his books over the years.

As I had just Finished listening to George read the audio version of his last book When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? on the day of his passing, I would like to pass along a copy of the book in his memory.

This will be a gently read used hardbound copy of the book that has been registered at Bookcrossing. Leave me a comment telling me what George Carlin's comedy meant to you, and a way of contacting you.

I'll draw the winner's name on July 2, 2008. This is open to anyone anywhere in the world.

So long George! Thanks for all the laughs!

I would also like enter for the George Carlin book. I was a fan. I can remember when he first did the 7 words you can't say on tv routine. He was a very funny man.

George Carlin as has been noted, is a comedic genius and well respected and mourned in his passing. You can read obituary after obituary that state these things, and comments from the "average joe" that express the gamut of emotion upon his passing.

What his comedy meant to me is a harder thing to express. Of course it made me laugh, but more importantly - as with all great comedians of a certain stamp - it made you think, it pointed out the inherent inequities and backwardnesses (at times) of our own society but making you laugh while they do it. At some level we are all aware of these things, but to point them out in a humorous context, and thus sometimes to help foster change or at least further awareness takes the touch of a master and someone willing to take that ultimate risk of failing utterly (in a huge way). It is that quality that separates the "wheat from the chaff" and makes someone great in their own time.

George Carlin did all of these things for me. Which is not to say I found everything he did funny, I didn't. I doubt anyone did (except perhaps his dog). But in the end he's one of the great comedians of our time, one I am sorry to see go, but am certain that he's amusing someone - somewhere - if we go on at all.

I'd be delighted to have the opportunity to read this book and then pass it along to someone else who is just as avid to enjoy it.

I'd like to enter for the George Carlin book. He has always been one of my favority comedians. And, I loved the bit parts he played in Kevin Smith's indie movies: Dogma, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I've been wanting to read this book for some time now. Thanks!
